Hummelstown, with its busy downtown area and small-town atmosphere, is a convenient and lovely place to live. Located in Dauphin County, it is about nine miles east of Harrisburg, the state capital. Hummelstown is primarily a bedroom community with most of its 4000+ residents employed outside the Borough limits.

Life in Hummelstown centers around the downtown area which boasts small-town shopping, dining and community activities. Located mid-way between Harrisburg and Hershey, Hummelstown gets a lot of tourist traffic, and its downtown is designed to draw in travelers. Close to the turnpike and interstates 81 & 83, Hummelstown is easy to travel to and from. Harrisburg International Airport is within 10 miles and the Harrisburg train station is within a 20-minute drive. The Hershey Company is the town’s biggest employer, while many others work at the nearby world-class Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
For outdoor recreation lovers, Indian Echo Caverns is a great place to explore. Several parks are located within the borough, as well as the Hummel Nature Trail which includes a winding footpath along the “Swatty” (Swatara Creek). A search of TrailLink will provide a selection of 50+ trails to hike and bike within a 20-mile radius!!! The annual Hummelstown Arts Festival in September raises money for Lower Dauphin students who will be going to college to study the arts.

Hummelstown is served by TWO school districts. The Derry Township School District is one of the top schools in PA as reported by US News and World Report. The district has 5 schools from an early childhood center through high school. Derry Township is the proud home of the Trojans and also boasts outstanding athletic teams and facilities.

For concerts and sporting events the Giant Center boasts a full schedule! And shopping…there’s shopping downtown and at the Outlets of Hershey. There is never a shortage of activities in the Hummelstown-Hershey area!
